Angra, through social media, has released a short film regarding the upcoming music video, “Vida Seca.” The song is part of the group’s latest album, Cycles of Pain, released earlier this month and has been gaining significant attention in the media and among fans.

The musical poetry brings a perspective of awareness about a harsh reality, creating a setting for reflection: “I started writing based on a premise – we were talking one day in the studio about meritocracy, social justice, and inequality, and we always end up inevitably bumping into the theme of meritocracy. The initial conditions of people are very different. You have people who were born in a good condition, who have access to education, good food, housing, clothing, leisure, who have the opportunity to travel and see the world, and they are competing for space in the market with people who were born in a completely different, unfavorable condition, living with scarcity, with restrictions, and making do. A child born in a super poor condition cannot worry about being a child,” comments Felipe Andreoli in the documentary.
The narrative of the music and the concept of the music video – directed by Leo Liberti – blend together, combining scenes of real people and drawing a parallel with the general conception proposed in the almost homonymous book and classic of literature, “Vidas Secas” (Barren Lives): “Graciliano Ramos’s work is timeless. There’s the cyclical aspect of the characters. And this has a huge parallel with the album Cycles of Pain. This cycle needs to be broken, or else it will be an eternal wheel of samsara,” comments Liberti.
The Cycles of Pain tour continues until the end of 2023 with dozens of shows throughout Brazil and will reach other continents next year. The new album – featuring special appearances such as Amanda Somerville and Juliana D’Agostini in “Tears of Blood”; Lenine in “Vida Seca,” and Vanessa Moreno in “Tide Of Changes – Part II” and “Here In The Now” – was produced, mixed, and mastered by Dennis Ward, resuming the partnership of classics like Rebirth and Temple of Shadows. Full of meanings, references, and feelings, the album Cycles of Pain was released worldwide on November 3.
Acclaimed since the 1990s as one of the great names in Brazilian metal with global reach, Angra, managed by Top Link Music, currently consists of guitarists Rafael Bittencourt and Marcelo Barbosa, bassist Felipe Andreoli, vocalist Fabio Lione, and drummer Bruno Valverde. In a great phase, Angra has started a new and important chapter in its successful journey with Cycles of Pain.
