‘Real R&B’: Guhhl’s new album is a shout-out to the musical genre in Brazil.

Featuring collaborations with both national and international artists, the 15-track album is now available on digital platforms.

Bringing back the nostalgia and captivating rhythms of the 2000s, rapper Guhhl releases “Real R&B” on Thursday, November 16th. The album, already accessible on digital platforms, aims to revive the strength and essence of the golden years of Rhythm and Blues in Brazil and includes contributions from MC Luanna, CJota, and American singer Zae France.

The project serves as “a call to attention for R&B,” a genre that gained popularity abroad in the 1990s and 2000s with artists like Ne-Yo, Chris Brown, Usher, and others. This musical style has always been a part of the artist’s life, who has specialized in it over his six-year career, blending classic influences with a contemporary language that resonates with a young audience.

“I believe that in Brazil, we haven’t experienced the R&B phase like they did overseas. In the US, it was the most listened to for a long time and is still thriving today. Here, we jumped from boom bap to trap and didn’t fully explore the richness that the musicality of the genre offers,” he states.

The track “Minha Bae” bridges the R&B styles of the United States and Brazil, featuring Zae France. Beyond just work, the song has become a personal achievement for the artist from Minas Gerais: “It was my first international collaboration. Zae France is someone I look up to; he has songs with Ne-Yo and now with me. He didn’t even understand my language, but he got excited about the song and accepted the challenge of the project. To me, that is priceless.”

In total, “Real R&B” consists of 15 tracks, including 12 originals, with collaborations from significant names in the national and international music scene. Featured artists include MC Luanna, Liz Kaweria, Karen Fialho, Dalua, CJota, and musician Wesley Camilo, who contributes a talk box on the track “CB.” In terms of musical production, the artist has assembled a team of genre specialists: PS, Stuani, Gu$t, JayPluggz, Mavyrmldy, IKNOWFELIPE, Duxx, and Chadlb.

“All the collaborations were very special to me: Luanna, Liz, and Karen brought the strength of women to the project; Dalua and Wesley played with different musical aesthetics and elevated the vibe I aimed to convey. Cjota, I’ve known since school, and we started in music almost at the same time. I’m very happy to reconnect with him at this point in our careers,” he shares.

From musical textures to minute details, the entire album showcases the artist’s passion for the style. The title, a provocation to the scene, has been immortalized on Guhhl’s back as a tattoo and is featured on the album cover. “The title is bold, but I know the weight I carry in the scene, and I consider myself that guy. R&B shaped me, and I want people to remember me when they think of it.”
